Kuching

Last month we went to Kuching for a short trip. The first time on the list was to savour the local kolo mee. Well, not all servings are good though. We also tried the fusion food at The Granary. Needless to say, the meal served was great. But the price is at the high side. After lunch, we wanted to go to the museum. Unfortunately, it was closed for the day. So we ended up at the Borneo Cultures Museum, which we did not manage to cover all the floors. It's a fine museum which was opened in recent months.  The following day, we went for a short excursion on the outskirts of Kuching. We first stopped at the Fairy Cave (the other cave was closed for maintenance).  Excursion inside the cave was pretty easy for beginners. After exploring the cave, we had lunch at the nearby town, Bau. Prior to that, we stopped over at the Blue Lake, which is just beside the town. On the way back to Kuching, we made a stop over at the Paku Rock Maze Garden and old town of Siniawan. The rock garden wa...

Sky mirror

Not long ago, we went to Sky Mirror, just off the coast of Kuala Selangor. According to the information from certain websites, Sky Mirror   is a mystery island that will only emerge for several days every month.  But you can go there everyday although the visiting hour might be different. We departed from Sasaran jetty around 6.30 am in early last July. Once we reached the spot, there were already a lot of boats with local tourist there. At that hour, water started to recede, forming a new land in the middle of the sea. As the land appears to be flat, you will have a good reflective water for photography - with your photography techniques. Well, basically photography is the only activity there. After all, this is the only place in Malaysia where you can have such natural effect besides the one in Bolivia.

East Coast trip

It has been a while since my last posting. Partly because the urge of journaling is waning. Nevertheless, will try to share as much life journey as possible while still able to. As the past week was school mid-term break, we took a short trip to the east coast. After all, we haven't been there for ages. It was a last minute plan as well. The plan was to stay the first night in Chukai and the second night in Cherating. On the first day of traveling, we made a last minute plan to have a brief stopover in Bentong. Goodness, there was heavy traffic towards the Gombak toll on Karak highway. Took us about half an hour to get through it. When we arrived in Bentong, we quickly went for the recommended wanton noodle stall. Unfortunately, it was closed on Sunday. So we switched to famous Bentong ice cream before settled down with a good meal in nearby hawker stall which just by the river. We continues our journey and reached Chukai, Kemaman before 5pm. After done our hotel check-in, we went ...

CNY 2022

After a year of pandemic, finally lion dance performance is allowed in Lunar New Year 2022. The most convenient way of catching a lion performance in Klang Valley is in shopping mall. This year we just spectated two performance in two different malls. Crowd was management due to distancing rule. Photos captured with iPhone 11

Bukit Sapu Tangan and Tasik Cermin

We did an unexpected hike in Bukit Sapu Tangan. Why unexpected? Because we thought the track would only require 3 hours to complete (return trip). Ended up we took 6 hours. We started from the entrance of Bukit Bandaraya. In a short while, we reached the first lake, not the Tasik Cermin. That should be Bukit Raja Lake. We were supposed to reach Bukit Sapu Tangan first, but somehow we missed it due to not familiar with the trail. We reached Station C, then proceeded to Tasik Cermin, and boy, the trail we chose was tough - with some climbing with the aid of rope. Luckily my kids did well in the entire hike. On the way back from Tasik Cermin, we passed by Station B, not sure if we did reach Station A (can’t remember well). In the end, we arrived at our starting point almost at 2pm. Everyone was famished. The first lake we reached Station C (if not mistaken) Tasik Cermin View of Tasik Cermin Station B

Eulogy for mum

It has been a month since mom left this world. She left us on Sept 4th.  My only prayer is that she is with God’s beloved on the other side of heaven. She was a hardworking, always making sure her children sufficiently nourished. Your love and sacrifice will be remembered.

Once upon a time in Guangzhou - Chen Clan Ancestral Hall

Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is a folk art museum in Guangzhou. The place is easily accessible via metro and public bus. What attract me about this place are the carving and architecture of the buildings. Like the Sacred Heart Church, the Hall was built during the Qing Dynasty era. The building complex is well preserved. The guided tour provided was very informative. A place not to be missed if you are in Guangzhou.
