Correcting...

If there's something wrong, what should we do? From ISO9001:2008 point of view, you need to correct the situation. First, you need corrections. Corrections are immediate actions. Some say it containment actions. Say you have toothache. Your correction will be to extract the tooth (could be painful). After you have taken the immediate action, so what's next? Don't you think you need to avoid the same thing from happening in future? Therefore, you need to take corrective action. An action which is taken in order to prevent recurrence. Having extracted the tooth earlier, what kind of action you need to take to prevent the next tooth or teethache. You extract all your teeth. No, that's too extreme. Probably a checkup to make sure no more cavity or hole in any teeth. If yes, maybe a filling will do. (Note: This is of course assuming the root cause is due to tooth cavity) OK, you have ensure all of your teeth are in good condition. What's next? Don't you think you n...

Business decision

Difficult time is here. At first, the company laid off the direct labors. Then the ratio between the direct labors and the indirect labors is too narrow. So now the company offers voluntary separation schceme for the indirect labors. Their target is to achieve back the balance ratio of 1 to 4. Other companies also doing the same. Seems like the downside is gonna last for few months.

Why training?

And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. (2 Tim 2:2) That's why there's a need to develop other.... Today’s best young employees, the ones on whom future success will depend, are demanding that employers help make them better performers. It seems that young people understood the new nature of today’s economy before a lot of CEOs did, and they insist on employers who will keep developing them. Blackout

Came to factory and saw lots of people standing outside the compound. Why? Because there was a blackout. Whose fault? TNB? The switch gear company? The fuse company? Or the mouse? So went into the factory and it was pitch black. You know, because factory architeture doesn't fancy windows. The best part: TNB guy said no spare part available. So they have to look elsewhere. And it may take another day to fix it. Management decision: Go back home. An unproductive day because of someone/something's fault.

They squandered your time....

How often when your time has been squandered, by other people? Literally you have wasted your valuable time because of someone else. This happens especially at work place. People call meeting and believe there are some of the attendees are not required or irrelevant for the meeting. So you stuck in the meeting hour and hour. What should you do? Leave quietly? Luckily, for some companies, some employees are given laptop and PDA or whatever berry. So in the meeting, people talking and you just do your own stuff on your laptop / PDA or play Sudoku. You become multi-tasking. At the end, we have a culture of disrespectful during meeting. That’s the norm in his previous company. But you get to finish your job fast.

Legacy

We have been talking about legacy during the bible study discussion and daily conversation. We have little idea about this concept until we studied More Than Money. What is the legacy that we, as an individual, a family member, a worker, a servant and a citizen ought to be? You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed. For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory. 1 Thessalonians 2:10-12 There were 3 things Paul left behind as his legacy: holy, righteous and blameless. These were his characters. Sounds difficult for me to attain these..... Paul also left behind his relationship: encouraging, comforting and urging of others to live lives worthy of God. Have we done these? We suppose to encourage one another on daily basis, and all the more as the Day is approaching. For what is our ho...

Type and Careers

Just knew it our personality type can influence our career choice and path. Well, I read up to see if I've chosen a wrong career. Or maybe I'm checking what is my future career. Our MBTI result can help us to choose a new job or career, change job or career and increase satisfaction with the present career. Briefly, the MBTI preferences are: (1) Extraversion ( E ) or Introversion ( I ) focus on the people and things in the outer world OR focus on the thoughts, feelings and impressions of the inner world. (2) Sensing ( S ) or Intuition ( N ) focus on facts and details that can be confirmed by experience OR focus on possibilities and relationships among ideas. (3) Thinking ( T ) or Feeling ( F ) use impersonal, objective, logical analysis to reach conclusions OR user person-centered, subjective analysis to reach conclusions. (4) Judging ( J ) or Perceiving ( P ) plan and organize; make decisions and come to closure OR be spontaneous and adaptable; collect information and stay...

When someone is resigning.....

Guess what will be the reaction when someone in your office / department is resigning? New gossip will spread like nobody business. Everybody will be very interested to know why are you resigning and where will you be going. I tendered my resignation two weeks ago. Even if you have told a small number of people about it, somehow by the end of the week, everybody knows the news. Colleagues become so friendly (suddenly). Then there will be farewell lunch or dinner arranged by this group and that group. After all, what is matter it's the friendship, not a meal. I'm looking forward for a new environment. Being offered with high paid scares you. One should work as the worth of the wages. The more you receive, the more you will give out. .....'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' Acts 20:35

Lesson from the sampling plan of potato chips

I attended a short course on quality sampling plan recently. The course was about how to design a sampling plan for a process. Why we need to do sampling? If not, the producers will need to do 100% inspection on their products. This will incur additional cost to the production. Ultimately, the cost will be absorbed by the consumer, which is us. During the course, there was a short sharing on how sampling plan activities take place in producing potato chips. The company is one of the renowned potato chips maker – Lays. A packet of Lays’ potato chips will cost you RM8. Maybe because it’s cost USD2 in the States (it’s cheap in US though). The quality activities start right from the vendor. Vendor will deliver a truck full of potatoes. But first, the company will take sampling to justify the quality of the potatoes before accepting the whole truck. Firstly, the worker will take samples from few points in the truck by placing a bucket. Then the worker will randomly load some potatoes into t...
