Trip 01-06.....rough itinerary

Category: Travel

OK, time is catching up. I have about 3 weeks left before the trip.

Have drafted out initial itinerary:
6 May - Fly to BKK and transit to Udon Thani. From Udon Thani, go to Nong Khai and cross over Laos border. Immigration office opens until 10pm. Hope to reach Vientiane before midnite.
7 May - Excursion around Vientiane.
8 May - Travel to Vang Vieng. Not really want to spend 11 hours on the bus to get to Luang Prabang. Have a pit stop will be nicer.
9 May - Continue to Luang Prabang.
10 May - Excursion around Luang Prabang.
11 May - Slow boat to Pak Beng. Mandatory pit stop due to slowliness of the boat.
12 May - Slow boat to Huoy Xai. I guess have to over night here (immigration office might be closed at time of arrival).
13 May - Cross over to Thailand. Might not stay in Chiang Rai. Proceed to Chiang Mai.
14 May -Back to Malaysia.

Our arrival in Chiang Mai/Rai is quite tight. No time to buffer for unexpected delays (eg boat problem etc), esp since we're leaving Chiang Mai early for home.

Read in LP site that Vientianne is nothing much really, and Vang Vieng can give it a miss. See what it says in LP book.

Otherwise looks quite fine schedule. I posted a new topic on LP Thorn Tree, see what others got to say.

What time expected to reach ChiangMai on 13th May if depart from HuayXay early morning? If got some spare time then should be fine to buffer.

Cannot stay in ChiangRai, must move on to ChiangMai, coz the next morning I have a very early flight from ChiangMai, to connect to BKK-KK.

If cannot make it pass the border on 6 May, can overnight in NongKhai and enter Vientianne the next morning.

Good to keep some money in Baht, since we'll be in Thailand for some time in the journey, and big USD notes may be difficult to use in small towns.

Sounds like Luang Prabang is the only real tourist attraction, the rest are mainly kampung style towns.

Yeah, the itinerary is flexible. We can have last minute change to cope with the situation. No worry. Just need to enjoy the trip.

Day 2: A visit to some of The Tokyo Toilet project

On the second day of my trip, I decided to visit some of the public toilets under The Tokyo Toilet project. The idea was inspired by the film  Perfect Days . Since the public toilets under this project are scattered around western side of Tokyo, I visited a few in Shibuya area, which are quite close to each other. One notable location is Yoyogi Park.  One of the highlights of these designer toilets is the transparent toilet. Its transparent glass walls will turn opaque when the door is locked. This feature is based on the electrochromic effect. However, this feature is unavailable during late autumn and winter, which coincided my visit. The key takeaway from this visit: an eye opening experience about toilet culture and social inclusivity. Japan trip 2024

Just returned from a solo trip to Japan end of last month. The trip coincided with a conference in Sendai. It was an 8-day trip, including 2 days of travel. Took a direct flight from KL to Tokyo on the afternoon of October 23rd (Wednesday), arriving that night. By the time I cleared immigration, it was almost midnight. Then took a train to downtown Shimbashi. Without detailed research on the location of my booked capsule hotel, I ended up walking in the wrong direction and almost being harassed by roadside pimps (lol). After getting free Wi-Fi at a convenience store, finally able to find the hotel. Once checked in, took a hot bath (it was an open bath). That was the end of the day.  In-flight meal of ANA airline Male-only capsule hotel with open hot spring You can browse manga for free after soaking
