What does it take to read the Scriptures formatively?
Mike shared his principal in reading the Scriptures formatively:
Start with a prayer and stillness.
Read it slowly.
Try to reflect.
Then respond to it.
Finally, relate the Scriptures to others.
If you read the book of John chapter one for the first time, you feel the impact of the words. You read it for the second time, the impact is still there. As you read for the nth time, well, the impact might still be there and same too. It seems no new knowledge can be scooped from the same chapter which has been read over and over again. Like this chart here. Unless you discover a new excitement, as denoted by the star.
