The Assault on Reason - the channel for politic of fear (1)

Since the invention of TV, it has changed everyone’s life. Most of the people are able to get access to information and entertainment easily and readily. Then TV has slowly replaced newspaper and printed media. An average person spends around 4 hours a day watching TV. (He was not. Not until they got the new TV. But still selectively watching TV program). What is lacking from TV is the ability to be interactive with the recipients (or viewers). We should know that government utilizes TV media to disseminate its propaganda and campaign. That’s why there’s government controlled channel.

One of the disadvantages of TV is that it does not take into the account of public opinion. It is always one-to-everyone communication. Lately, some programs have included SMS polling. Well, at least there’s minimal feed back communication from the viewer side.

From the scientific research point of view, the brain activity of a person who watches 4 hours TV program a day is somehow quite different compared to a person who doesn’t watch. No doubt there’s a different thinking pattern between the two groups. Of course the one watching TV regularly will have somewhat “informed” information without any reasoning. You watched TV news and you get the direct information from it. Sometimes, it’s subliminal propaganda – it slips through you reasoning ability. Then you are influenced, convinced and persuaded. Similar like how does the advertisement work.

So do spend you time wisely when you come back from work. Do you want to be subjected to passive input from the TV shows? Or be involved in active thinking and intellectual reasoning? And don’t forget to spend time with Him.

Trip 01-06.....rough itinerary

Category: Travel OK, time is catching up. I have about 3 weeks left before the trip. Have drafted out initial itinerary: 6 May - Fly to BKK and transit to Udon Thani. From Udon Thani, go to Nong Khai and cross over Laos border. Immigration office opens until 10pm. Hope to reach Vientiane before midnite. 7 May - Excursion around Vientiane. 8 May - Travel to Vang Vieng. Not really want to spend 11 hours on the bus to get to Luang Prabang. Have a pit stop will be nicer. 9 May - Continue to Luang Prabang. 10 May - Excursion around Luang Prabang. 11 May - Slow boat to Pak Beng. Mandatory pit stop due to slowliness of the boat. 12 May - Slow boat to Huoy Xai. I guess have to over night here (immigration office might be closed at time of arrival). 13 May - Cross over to Thailand. Might not stay in Chiang Rai. Proceed to Chiang Mai. 14 May -Back to Malaysia.

Dangers Men Face #1 - A Dangerous Journey

As we live our life in this fallen world, we are exposed to all sort of "dangers". Danger brings different meaning and experience to each individual. But the danger which we fear the most are the ones we do not see until it is too late. No doubt satan brings good disguise until the victim slowly entrapped into sweet temptation. Each one of us have dreams. Our dreams somehow change along the course of life. Most of the members felt that perspective and dream change as we follow Christ. Dangers come in whether we know it or not. If we are not aware, dangers will destroy our dreams. The members believe the prominent danger that Christians are facing is danger of dream. Christians tend dare not to have big dream (big dream for spiritual work). This could be due to biblical values which have molded the perspective of each Christians. Martin Luther did have a big dream. There are five dangers to be explored: danger of loss, danger of sin, danger of freezing, danger of witdrawal and...

Trip 01-06.....the preparation

Category: Travel Time flies so fast. I only have one month left before go to Laos. Had done some reading on Laos lately. Had bought the new edition of Lonely Planet: South East Asia on a Shoestring. Planning to utilise the guide in other future trip as well (probably Bali and The Philippines). Basically we (Dr Mic and I) haven't finalised the itinerary. Hopefully will be able to come out the rough plan (we did have a rough plan but haven't finalised it though).
