Trip 04-06: Crazy drive to Penang

Drove up to Penang on Friday night (18 Aug) with Connie (Ad Di's gf). Had 3 stops and the journey took about 4 hours. Considering the distance between Penang and KL is about 320km, a good record for me (with 3 pitstops).

Arrived in Vistana about 11pm and felt dead tired. Went for lok-lok near USM. Claimed to be good stuff and cheap price. Yeap, it was cheap but the food was so so only. Lots of students had late supper there.

The next morning we had breakfast with Joshua. Went to nearby hawker center (SS2 look-alike) called Super Tanker. Tried the so-called famous char kuey teow. Disappointing though. Tried another stuff - chee cheong fun. Disaster...... Maybe we went to wrong place. I remember I had a good char kuey teow few years back in Georgetown. Seems like the quality of food is no more in Penang?

After breakfast, went to USM to attend Ah Di's convocation. Self appointed to be official photographer for the graduate. Snapped some photos. Hehehe....

Noon time, lunch in nearby restaurant (just opposite USM, Sg Dua). Had chicken rice. Again the food was so so only. Double disappointment.

It was afternoon, and there was no plan for us. So we (SY and parents and myself) went back to KL.

After 2 hours drive, detoured to Kampar for chicken bread. Thought of going to the famous shop. By the time we arrived, they were closing. So we went to their competitor. The chicken bread was uncomparable to the previous maker.

Had little shopping in one of the biscuit shops (chicken biscuit etc). Guess what, Ang Lee was there last month. The shop owner even took photo with the director. So proud. And he will start his filming in Ipoh and Kampar next month. So the folks in these two towns will see him more. I guess more shop owners will try to snap a photo with him.

Then we met LF in her phamarcy. Good to see her. Still looking good and healthy.

It was getting late, so we headed back to PJ (about 7pm). Reached home around 9pm. What a day!

Day 2: A visit to some of The Tokyo Toilet project

On the second day of my trip, I decided to visit some of the public toilets under The Tokyo Toilet project. The idea was inspired by the film  Perfect Days . Since the public toilets under this project are scattered around western side of Tokyo, I visited a few in Shibuya area, which are quite close to each other. One notable location is Yoyogi Park.  One of the highlights of these designer toilets is the transparent toilet. Its transparent glass walls will turn opaque when the door is locked. This feature is based on the electrochromic effect. However, this feature is unavailable during late autumn and winter, which coincided my visit. The key takeaway from this visit: an eye opening experience about toilet culture and social inclusivity. Japan trip 2024

Just returned from a solo trip to Japan end of last month. The trip coincided with a conference in Sendai. It was an 8-day trip, including 2 days of travel. Took a direct flight from KL to Tokyo on the afternoon of October 23rd (Wednesday), arriving that night. By the time I cleared immigration, it was almost midnight. Then took a train to downtown Shimbashi. Without detailed research on the location of my booked capsule hotel, I ended up walking in the wrong direction and almost being harassed by roadside pimps (lol). After getting free Wi-Fi at a convenience store, finally able to find the hotel. Once checked in, took a hot bath (it was an open bath). That was the end of the day.  In-flight meal of ANA airline Male-only capsule hotel with open hot spring You can browse manga for free after soaking
