More Than Money #1 – Origin

The origin of the economic activity was examined. We would look at the account of creation to see economic principles at work. The book of Genesis provides the first definitive account of how the spiritual and the material worlds collaborate to accomplish God’s purpose. The first two chapters of Genesis (Gen 1:1-2:25) provide the most significant description of God’s architecture of material world. We would notice the astounding scope of His work, His attention to the smallest detail, the beauty of His design and order. God’s creativity is revealed through the creation. A thought to ponder: capital is defined as resources which produce an ongoing return. How do we observe this material world as the capital base that God has created for man? The creation of flora and fauna (which were created foremost than human) is for God’s pleasure. Then God entrusted man to be the caretaker of this magnificent material world. It is thought that this earth was a gift for Adam (of course the other gre

More Than Money - Prologue

As we have completed the study on Dangers Men Face (I haven’t got the chance to share the discussion of the remaining chapters), we explored the biblical concept of economy and management. The study material is More Than Money , the last module of Scriptural Roots of Commerce . The purpose of this study is to understand the foundation of economic life. We will see that the material world is meant for the glory of the God. As we try to align our perspective with God, we face tension - tension with God and with the people around us. Among the tensions which some of us may feel (excerpt from the study module): Caring for people yet seeking profit Humility and the drive for success Ethics, justice and misuse of authority Family, business and social responsibilities Handling personal possessions well in a needy society Upholding moral values in a corrupt environment Personal drives vs corporate demands What have you tried to manage these tension

VIOLENCES DES ECHANGES EN MILIEU TEMPERE

Had watched this free movie recently in conjunction with French Art Festival. The festival began with a dance performance (titled Babel) in Istana Budaya two weeks ago (the same day I got my Myvi). It was an interesting performance although I did not understand some of the interpretation of the movement. Back to the movie. This French movie was produced in year 2002. The story is about a young man who started to work with a consultant firm in Paris, where he met his lover (who was a receptionist cum secretary in another firm). His first task was to audit a small factory which would to be taken over by a large corporation. All the employees didn't know the takeover was the main agenda behind the audit. As he has completed his initial report, his boss was impressed with his work. He was then given additional task whereby he would to assess the capability of the staff in that factory. This was indeed a big challenge for him. He was a soft person, not willing to see some of the staff

The weekend that was unexpected....

Last weekend was quite an eventful weekend. Had planned to go to KL Convention Center for Popular Book Feast. It was crowded. Lots of Parents taking their children to visit the book fair since it was school holiday. Eventhough it was packed, we (SY and I) spent nearly 4 hours but end up bought no book. My housemates did buy some. The next day we received a message stated that SH's father has passed away. It was a surprise. We had a last minute plan - drove down to Batu Pahat to pay a visit. Batu Pahat is quite a big town (to my surprise). It has one shopping mall and 2 or 3 "The Store" outlets. We arrived around 3pm and had a little chit-chat with the family. We left an hour and half later. After about 2 hours drive, we stucked in the famous jam along the KL-Seremban highway. It took us 1 hour to get thru it. Finally we arrived home at 9pm. We had a good journey but it was a bummer to encounter traffic jam along the highway.
