Lantern

As Sibu population is majority Chinese (at least in town area and its surrounding), there's no surprise that the town will be decorated in conjunction with major Chinese festivals such as mid-autumn festival. Unfortunately, during the last visit, the lanterns had not been officially lighted.

Charity sale

A fund raising charity sale in one of Sibu churches. It was like a market. There's a butcher stall too.

Corporal punishment and pampering parents?

In year 2006, a poll was conducted on Americans with kids under 18 living with them. This was what they found out: - the strictest parents attend church weekly (identified as conservative) - the least strict parents are younger - men are little stricter than women - 52% of parents think it's better to guide children with "discipline and structure" - more than half say it's important to make children a better citizens However, 90% say today parents are too easy on their kids. It all starts from infant: should babies be comforted whenever they cry? Or allow them to cry it out so they learn how to sleep? The former has 60% of agreement. Here's another poll question: Suppose you had a 9-year-old son/daughter who screamed a cursed word at you and said he/she hated you. What would be your likely response? (1) Sit down and ask why he/she feels that way? (2) Tell him/her that you're sorry he/she feels that way, but you love him/her anyway. (3) Smack him/her. Of course

No excuses

Jesus replied: "A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, 'Come, for everything is now ready.' "But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, 'I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.' "Another said, 'I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I'm on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.' "Still another said, 'I just got married, so I can't come.' Luke 14: 16-20 At certain time, we choose to give excuse because we have our dearly business, property and family! This is because we are focusing on ourselves. The word sin in Greek is to miss the mark; the word excuse is a reason to miss the mark.

Baby's day out

Excited...

Sunrise at Gunung Penanjakan (Part 1 of 2)

From Cemoro Lawang, took a jeep and headed to Gunung Penanjakan for the impressive sunrise. Penanjakan is the highest point on the outer crater. Reached there around 4am and felt freezing cold. The coldness numbed the fingers that I barely able to click the camera shutter release button. Should buy a pair of gloves from the local earlier.

How did you celebrate National Day?

What could be any better than supporting Malaysian brand - by flying MAS to domestic route. Did it twice last month. Like their seat cushion color. Their meal was just ok - too many sweeties.

Babel

Not a new movie but a movie which I wanted to watch long time ago. The title itself has already hinted you it could be multi-language. Indeed it is. It tells a story of few people around the world who are somehow linked to each other. That's another way of telling six degree separation theory. To cut story short: a tourist was unintentionally hurt by two brothers who got the riffle from their father who intentionally bought it from a friend whose rifle was originally given by a Japanese hunter cum tourist as a gift. As a consequence, the tourist and her husband couldn't make at home on time. Their kids had to follow their nanny to Mexico and unfortunate events happened. OK, each people mentioned has his/her story and struggle, and as one incident happens, it leads to consequence, sort of cause and effect. The big question, why the rifle was given away? Why the Japanese went hunting? The movie doesn't give the answer... You shouldn't jump to conclusion hastily just l
